About The Engineering Department
At Glasgow Kelvin College, we offer a wide range of engineering programmes across all major disciplines, including Civil, Electrical & Electronic, and Mechanical Engineering. From NC through to HND level, our courses are designed to develop practical skills, technical knowledge and clear progression routes into employment or further study.
Our programmes cover key areas including design, construction, manufacturing and building systems, with practical learning at every stage.
Many of our courses are also available through flexible day-release pathways, allowing learners to combine study with real-world industry experience while gaining recognised qualifications.
Alongside our full-time and day-release options, we now offer Modern Apprenticeships in Engineering, providing a structured, work-based route that combines college learning with workplace training and nationally recognised certification. This pathway includes HNC-level study and leads to full apprenticeship status on completion.

Student Experience
The course gave me the opportunity to do better for myself and set my career up for success. It laid the foundations which would be expected from working in the industry in a setting where mistakes were learning experiences.Â
Regardless of if you want to work on planes, F1 cars or renewable energy, a HND from Glasgow Kelvin will open up a world of opportunities for you.
The best parts about the course we’re always the hands on parts, and the lectures abilities to relate the theories learned in classrooms to physical aspects in the workshops.
I particularly loved being able to work on hands-on engineering projects in the workshop backed up by engineering theory, for example during our HND project to design and manufacture an electric race car
