Bringing Business Learning to Life 💼
Donna Kerr, founder of DMK Finance, joined our Business students to share insights from a 40-year career in commercial and corporate banking and her experience of building her own finance business.
Donna worked with students to connect what they’re learning in the classroom with real-life business scenarios, sharing her experience of working with businesses across the UK and answering questions about the business and finance industry.
Her message to our students was simple: mindset matters and knowledge is power.
Hello, my name is Kamil, and I am studying business in Glasgow Kelvin College.
I love to do spreadsheets. They're great to do. They're great fun. I love learning them.
The teachers are really, really nice, helpful.
I have just finished high school last year. I came to this college, and I loved it. I am able to go to the other college that's allowing me to go into the police courses, and I can't wait to help the society.
Thanks to all of my qualifications, I am set for life. I will be able to get into many courses. It would give me more confidence.
There's nothing to be afraid of. If you want to go to college, get qualifications, just go for it.
Afternoon my name is Donna Kerr I'm the founder of DMK Finance my background is commercial corporate banking a 40-year commercial career and decided to set up DMK Finance four and a half years ago and so far it's been incredible
We're now at seven people and we are supporting the UK businesses from big SMEs to you know transactions that span tens of millions to small property investors just getting off the ground and today we had the absolute opportunity to talk about all the coursework that is being presented to the students. We've been talking about how that is brought to life in real life business scenarios.
I was able to share the story about my background being a wee lassie from Possil, who was dyslexic, who was never given the opportunity at school to be, you know, inspired or have that mindset. That was very much born out of adversity.
So, you know, having the pleasure to talk to students that might have come from a similar background. I was able to talk about mindset as being the number one thing to hang your hat on. And secondly is knowledge, is that knowledge is power and the more knowledge that you've got, the more power you've got and the right mindset, then you can achieve whatever you want.
It was really nice to meet the students and they were really engaging. The questions were great. A lot of young people with a lot of ambition. It's been fantastic.
