NEW Flexible Workforce Development Fund

Fully funded training to help your workforce grow

The New Flexible Workforce Development Fund (New FWDF) is a Scottish Government initiative designed to help employers invest in their employees who earn less that £33,000 per year through fully funded training delivered by Scotland's colleges.

Whether you're looking to address skills gaps, support career progression or develop your workforce, Glasgow Kelvin College can work with you to identify the right training opportunities for your organisation.

What is the New FWDF?

The New Flexible Workforce Development Fund provides eligible employers with access to fully funded training to help upskill employees and support workforce development.

The fund:

  • Offers up to £15,000 of funded training per employer, per year.
  • Provides up to £5,000 of funding per eligible employee.
  • Supports flexible, work-friendly training delivered by Scotland's colleges.
  • Helps employees gain recognised qualifications and industry-relevant skills.

The current funding programme runs from August 2026 to December 2027.

Who can apply?

The fund is available to employers of all sizes across the:

  • Private sector
  • Public sector
  • Third (voluntary) sector

To be eligible, your organisation must:

  • Operate from a base in Scotland.
  • Already implement, or commit to working towards, Fair Work practices.

Eligible employees must earn less than £33,000 per year and meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Be a parent or carer of a child under 18 living at home.
  • Be aged under 24.
  • Be care experienced or disabled and aged under 30.

Training is designed to be flexible and responsive to employer needs, making it easier for employees to learn alongside their existing work and family commitments.

How to Apply

Applications can be made by either an employer or an individual employee, provided the employer is aware of and supports the application.

Funding is limited and allocated regionally, so we recommend getting in touch as early as possible.

Our Business & Industry team will work with you to:

  • Discuss your workforce training needs.
  • Confirm eligibility.
  • Identify suitable training opportunities.
  • Guide you through the application process.
